Luano City Shines at BTP & CMA Lunch Debate Club

Luano City had the privilege of participating in the Lunch Debate Club hosted by BTP & CMA at the prestigious Pullman Karavia in Lubumbashi. The session, led by Jean Bamanisa, President of the BTP Club & CMA, brought together developers, engineers, real estate leaders, policymakers, and urban planners for an open discussion on the urgent topic of urbanization in Lubumbashi.

The event couldn’t have been more timely. As Lubumbashi rapidly expands, it is already showing visible signs of unregulated growth, poorly enforced building codes, and inconsistent adherence to urban planning principles. Many speakers noted that in previous years, building plans were not only respected but enforced. Today, however, the city faces a concerning erosion of town and country planning standards.

A Collaborative Path Forward

One of the most pressing takeaways from the meeting was a strong call for collaboration between the private and public sectors. Developers and engineers were encouraged to form a formal forum or working group to engage more directly and consistently with government bodies. By working hand-in-hand, this group could help guide urban expansion in a sustainable and coherent way, ensuring that Lubumbashi grows not only in size but in livability, safety, and long-term value.

Luano City: A Leading Example of Smart Urban Design

As a master-planned, mixed-use development, Luano City stood out during the event as a leading example of what smart, sustainable urban growth can look like in the DRC. With its emphasis on:

  • Planned residential estates like Flamboyant, Mahogany, Jacaranda, and Frangipani Estates

  • Integrated green spaces and community parks

  • Infrastructure-ready commercial and office zones

  • Proximity to Lubumbashi International Airport

  • Upcoming Mall of Lubumbashi—a regional lifestyle and retail destination

  • Walkability, safety, and smart mobility

Luano City was highlighted as a model that other developments—and municipal authorities—can learn from. Its vision of “Live. Work. Shop. Fly.” reflects a commitment not just to real estate, but to a new urban lifestyle that is organized, accessible, and forward-thinking.

A Shared Responsibility

For Luano City, the event was not only a platform for visibility but also a moment to join the call for shared responsibility. If Lubumbashi is to avoid the pitfalls of unchecked growth seen in other cities, developers, architects, civil engineers, urban planners, and government regulators must work together toward clear standards, consistent enforcement, and sustainable goals.

We extend our sincere thanks to BTP & CMA and Jean Bamanisa for organizing a thoughtful and impactful event—and for providing the space for such critical conversations. Luano City remains committed to supporting smart, inclusive urban development and looks forward to contributing further to Lubumbashi’s promising future.
